The foundation of what we do
Orthopedic Physical Therapy
in Torrington, CT
Most of what brings people to physical therapy is orthopedic: an aching back, a stiff shoulder, a knee that gives out. For 40+ years our Torrington team has treated these the same way, with a hands-on plan built around your specific injury and how you actually move.
Hands-on care for muscle, joint, and bone pain
Orthopedic physical therapy treats the muscles, joints, ligaments, and tendons that let you move, the parts most often hurt by injury, overuse, arthritis, or simply years of wear. It is the core of outpatient PT and the largest part of what we do across both Torrington locations.
Your first visit is an evaluation: we find the real source of the pain (which is often not where it hurts), measure your strength and motion, and watch how you move. From there we build a plan that combines hands-on manual therapy, targeted exercise, and techniques like Graston soft-tissue mobilization to get you back to the activities you have been avoiding.
You do not need a referral to start. Connecticut is a Direct Access state, so you can be evaluated and begin treatment without first seeing a physician. We verify your insurance benefits before your first visit so there are no surprises.

Who it helps
New or sudden injury
A recent strain, sprain, or flare-up. Early, guided treatment usually means a faster, more complete recovery than waiting it out.
Nagging, chronic pain
Pain that comes and goes for months. We look past the symptom to the movement pattern or weakness driving it.
Arthritis and wear
Knee, hip, neck, or back arthritis. The right strengthening and manual therapy can reduce pain and delay or avoid surgery.

Orthopedic PT: common questions
Do I need a referral for orthopedic physical therapy in Connecticut?
No. Connecticut is a Direct Access state, so you can be evaluated and start PT for up to 90 days without a physician referral. Some insurance plans still require a referral for coverage, so call us at (860) 489-0867 and we will check your specific plan before you come in.
How many visits will I need?
It depends on the injury, but most orthopedic plans run from a few weeks to a couple of months, usually one to three visits a week tapering as you improve. Your therapist sets a clear plan after the first evaluation and adjusts it as you progress.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Bring your insurance card, a photo ID, any relevant imaging or doctor notes, and clothing you can move comfortably in. Plan for about an hour for the initial evaluation.
Which location should I go to?
Both Peck Road and Alvord Park offer full orthopedic PT. Choose whichever is more convenient; if a specific specialty fits your case better, we will point you to the right location when you call.
Ready to get started?
