NeuFIT / NEUBIE Therapy
in Torrington, CT
Physical therapy helps the body heal. NeuFIT therapy helps the nervous system remember how to move. At Maletta Pfeiffer, we have eight NEUBIE-certified providers across our two Torrington locations. More than any visible competitor in Litchfield County.
What Is NeuFIT / NEUBIE Therapy?
The NEUBIE (Neuro Bio-Electric Stimulator) is an FDA-cleared electrical stimulation device that communicates directly with your nervous system. Unlike a standard TENS unit, which simply interrupts pain signals, the NEUBIE targets the neural pathways that control muscle activation.
Your body relearns movement patterns that an injury, surgery, or chronic condition disrupted. For patients who've plateaued with traditional PT, NeuFIT can open up progress that seemed out of reach.
At Maletta Pfeiffer Physical Therapy, we have eight NEUBIE-certified providers across our two Torrington locations. We've used it to help patients like Julie S., whose Achilles Tendonitis pain stopped her from walking barefoot, and Megan M., whose foot and ankle recovery had stalled before NeuFIT made "an immediate difference" in her balance and flexibility.

TENS vs. NEUBIE: the key difference
Standard TENS
Interrupts pain signals. Masks symptoms. Provides temporary relief.
NEUBIE
Targets neuromuscular re-education. Retrains movement patterns. Addresses cause, not symptom.
Who Benefits from NeuFIT Therapy?
NeuFIT is especially effective for three patient profiles:
Stalled Recovery
Chronic pain patients who have tried traditional PT without lasting results. NeuFIT addresses the neural component of pain and movement dysfunction that standard tissue-focused treatments may miss.
Post-Surgical Patients
Recovering from joint replacement, rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction, or spinal surgery. NEUBIE helps the nervous system re-engage muscles that have been inhibited by pain, immobility, or surgical trauma.
Neurological Conditions
Conditions where nerve-muscle communication is impaired, including post-stroke recovery, peripheral nerve injury, and neuropathy. The NEUBIE's direct nervous-system targeting makes it well-suited for these cases.

NeuFIT / NEUBIE: Common Questions
Is NeuFIT covered by insurance?
NeuFIT / NEUBIE treatment is typically billed as electrical stimulation therapy. Coverage depends on your specific plan and diagnosis. Call us at (860) 489-0867 and we'll verify your benefits before your first visit so there are no surprises.
How is NEUBIE different from a TENS unit or traditional electrical stimulation?
A TENS unit masks pain signals by interrupting them at the nerve level. The NEUBIE targets neuromuscular re-education. It communicates with the neural pathways that control muscle activation, helping your body relearn correct movement patterns that an injury, surgery, or chronic condition disrupted. Think of TENS as turning down the volume on pain; NEUBIE as retraining the system that controls how you move.
How many NeuFIT sessions does it typically take?
Most patients see noticeable changes within 3 to 6 sessions, though the number varies significantly by condition. NeuFIT is often used as an adjunct to a broader PT plan, not as a standalone treatment. Your provider will assess your response after the initial evaluation and build a plan from there.
Which Maletta Pfeiffer locations offer NEUBIE therapy?
Both Torrington locations offer NeuFIT / NEUBIE therapy:
- Peck Road: 30 Peck Road, Torrington CT 06790, (860) 489-0867
- Alvord Park: 245 Alvord Park Road, Torrington CT, (860) 496-9851
We have 8 NEUBIE-certified providers across both clinics.
Do I need a doctor's referral for NeuFIT therapy in Connecticut?
Connecticut is a Direct Access state for physical therapy, which means patients can attend PT (including NeuFIT/NEUBIE sessions) for up to 90 days without a physician referral. Some insurance plans require a referral for coverage. Call us and we'll clarify what your specific plan requires before you come in.
If your recovery has stalled, a NeuFIT consultation is worth the call.
Both Torrington locations. Most appointments within a week.
